Building Back Better with Chat for Impact Education Webinar 2021

This December 2nd will see the first Chat for Impact Education Webinar taking place to provide expert insight and real-life case studies of how Chat could help to build back better education systems.

In support of the UNESCO Global Education Coalition's objectives, WhatsApp, in partnership with Praekelt.org and Turn.io presents a fully virtual event that will illuminate and discuss the role of Chat as a low-cost, scalable technology-solution for education.

The webinar is aimed at social impact organisations working in learning and education across the globe, as well as organisations funding education initiatives. It will also be highly useful for social impact organisations, NGOs and government departments working to provide access to vital information and resources at scale in areas like gender-based violence, health, human rights and more.

The 90-minute Chat for Impact Education Webinar will showcase emerging use cases in the education sector to uncover the most up to date learnings and insights. Among these use cases will be Sesame Workshop (LATAM) and TeacherConnect (EMEA).

* The Sésamo Chatbot uses WhatsApp to deliver tailored educational content to caregivers. The efforts are designed to address gaps in access to early education caused by the dual crises of displacement and COVID-19 in Latin America.

* Developed for the South African Department of Basic Education in partnership with E³, TeacherConnect is a WhatsApp service that includes a comprehensive collection of valuable information and resources - including teacher training and development modules and weekly video and text-based content - that allow for deep engagement and feedback opportunities for teachers via WhatsApp.

One of the webinar’s highlights will be a panel discussion facilitated by Catherine Cheney, Senior Reporter for Devex. EduTech experts will share insights gained during the pandemic and explore the role that Chat technology can play in building back better education with the collaboration of industry, philanthropy, academia and government representatives.

Three of the participants on the panel are Nompumelelo Mohohlwane, Deputy Director: Research Coordination, Monitoring & Evaluation at Department of Basic Education in South Africa; Noam Angrist, Executive Director, Co-Founder Young1ove and Vishnupriya Sainath, Senior Manager, Partnerships at Khan Academy.

"We’re proud of our continuing partnership with Turn.io to support social impact organisations using WhatsApp to improve their communities.  We hope that these incredible examples of how messaging can be used to expand access to education will inspire others to use chat technology for social good." - Ben Supple, head of WhatsApp Civic Engagement
“The COVID-19 pandemic has seen hundreds of Government and social impact organisations fast track the use of low-cost, scalable tech solutions like Chat to engage communities,” says Gustav Praekelt, Co-Founder of Turn.io. “Key learnings and insights from organisations using chat in the education sector can illuminate and inspire opportunities and spark a meaningful conversation about the role of Chat in building back better education systems for the most vulnerable in the future.”

The Chat for Impact Education 2021 webinar is part of the Chat for Impact series of events which have included the Chat for Impact Summit and Accelerator and a series of regional Chat for Impact Bootcamps.
