Turn.io Expands its Latin American Footprint

In a strong endorsement of the growing power of WhatsApp-based chat for impact in Latin America, Turn.io is expanding its footprint in the region with a growing and dynamic team on the ground to support its increasing partnerships with both enterprise and social impact clients.

Over the last couple of years, Turn.io has already supported important customers across Latin America including the Argentinian Election Authority, Sesame Workshop (in Mexico and other Latin American countries) and Junior Achievement Americas among others.

This week, the Turn.io team will participate in a workshop and a series of meetings in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro as part of sharing how the platform’s conversational technology and the power of WhatsApp can empower change and accelerate the growth and impact of organisations.

Turn.io’s co-founders, Pippa Yeats and Gustav Praekelt, will join João Paulo Rio Branco (Impact Partnerships Lead - Americas), Julia Mathias (Backend Engineer), Vitor Cairoli (Solutions Engineer), Raquel Graça (Product Support), and Santiago Cardona (Backend Engineer) for a week of engagement to learn more from the organisations on the ground and share insights into the future of chat technology.

“Turn.io believes that technology is a powerful tool for social impact and we are really starting to see the benefits of this in Brazil,” says João Paulo Rio Branco, Turn.io's Impact Partnerships Lead - Americas. “We are looking forward to connecting to our partners to share knowledge and learnings for the future.”

Among those Turn.io Brazil will be meeting is a trio of enterprise (large scale) clients that are already using the Turn.io platform. These are Latin America Leadership Academy, a non-profit institution that aims to develop a new generation of diverse, entrepreneurial, and ethical leaders who will serve the Latin American region, Ministério do Desenvolvimento e Assistência Social, Família e Combate à Fome, the Ministry of Social Development Brazil, and IMED, a private, non-profit entity that provides services of relevant public interest in the area of health.

Taking place on Thursday 21 March, the workshop event is being hosted in partnership with VelezReyes+ at the Nubank offices in Sao Paulo. More than 20 social impact organisations from Brazil have been invited to the workshop which aims to help organisations understand the opportunities available to them using chat technology (including supportive AI), hear case studies from organisations already using chat in Latin America and generate ideas on how they could best use chat to scale and improve their impact in the future.

One of the case studies to be presented at the workshop will be from MegaEdu, a leading educational non-profit organisation that partnered with Turn.io in 2023 to launch a WhatsApp chatbot to substantially increase the number of public schools with adequate internet connectivity across Brazil. The chatbot supports school directors and technicians, offering quick diagnoses and action plans, and facilitates access to relevant information. The success of the pilot programme, which initially focused on schools in Rio, has resulted in the project expanding nationally across Brazil.

Turn.io’s partnerships in Brazil also includes Impulso Gov, a Brazilian-based social impact organisation that was selected for the 2023 Chat for Impact Health Accelerator led by Turn.io in collaboration with WhatsApp and The Agency Fund. Impulso Previne is a platform that empowers healthcare professionals with technology to operate in a next-generation primary care model. The organisation uses Whatsapp to support local caregivers and recently piloted direct messaging in one municipality, reminding citizens to schedule appointments/exams.
