Wysa is currently supporting more than 11 million people and processing over 300,000 NHS referrals.
A key barrier identified to scaling further was that traditional intake forms have completion rates below 70% for non-English speaking groups due to language barriers, literacy challenges and phone anxiety.
Work through the Accelerator, therefore, focused on replacing paper and phone-based intake flows with a conversational and highly accessible experience delivered via WhatsApp. Specifically, Wysa built a WhatsApp-based digital referral assistant that compassionately guides users through the full self-referral and intake journey using conversational flows.
The system supports multilingual (i.e. the user selects their preferred language), voice-enabled interactions, allowing users to complete intake in their preferred language with audio as well as, or instead of, written text, removing the main barriers to intake form completion by non-English speakers.

The AI agent underpinning this can navigate the full intake structure and prepare information for sharing with care providers through connected health record systems.
In parallel, Wysa tested similar multilingual, conversational journeys in India through its DreamKit program, showing strong engagement with read rates around 85%.
A key learning was how to adapt conversational AI for regulated health environments while maintaining accessibility and user trust.
This work positions WhatsApp as an inclusive front door for mental health support, reducing friction in referrals and enabling more people to access timely, evidence-based care.
