Role Overview

As a Product Designer at Turn.io, you’ll be designing the tools that enable others to easily create chat services that have a real impact in the world. There’s a long list of interesting problems, some of which have never been solved before. If you have great product and design instincts, technical abilities, taste, and impeccable craft, you’re in the right place. You’ll be reporting to the Design Lead.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define, drive and solve high-impact problems from discovery to delivery and iterating
  • Contribute to and influence the overall product strategy and vision
  • Work cross-functionally with engineers and other partners to ensure your work is not only impactful, but also feasible
  • Plan, organise and conduct user research, qualitative and quantitative, and disseminate insights across the business to help drive strategy
  • Contribute to and evolve our internal design system
  • Help with hiring and establishing a design culture within the company
  • Contribute to iterating design and development processes

That said, the nature of a startup dictates that roles often cover a lot more ground than the job specification suggests and as such we prefer generalists over specialists. We, as of now, have no Product Managers and focus on hiring product-minded designers and engineers that, with agency, can drive work themselves. This is an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to join a funded startup in its founding years and experience and shape the growth of a product first hand.

What We're Looking For

  • Experienced: this is a senior role, and we expect a track record of leading and designing complex interactive applications, taking projects from ambiguous discovery and shaping into people’s hands; in small or early stage organisations
  • Mission-driven: you care more about the impact we’re having together than nice work you can put on your portfolio
  • User-centric: your first instinct is to speak with customers, not jumping to Figma. You’re an advocate for users & user-centricity in the organisation
  • Product-thinker: you’re capable of balancing and compromising towards the best solution that is both fantastic to use, easiest to build, and delivers the largest business impact
  • Autonomous: you don’t wait for tasks to be assigned to you, for people to manage you and your work, or for other people to find problems for you to solve. You’re a go-getter that is capable of managing themselves, and work on the highest priority thing all the time
  • End-to-end: you’re strong all around, being as good doing user research as you are in creating beautiful and polished experiences, and capable of owning the whole process end-to-end
  • Collaborator: you recognise that, to go far, you need to collaborate with other individuals — and oftentimes the best ideas come from them
  • Technical: you both understand the medium you’re designing for (some Front-end skills are a bonus), and also have hands-on experience building things yourself — giving you personal insight about the problems our customers face when building things with our product
  • Love the craft: ultimately, you’re accountable for visual, UI & interaction design — and we expect nothing more than excellence

Benefits

  • Work 100% remotely from anywhere in the world
  • Flexible working hours
  • “Calm Fridays”: most Fridays we only work for half a day and leave the rest of the day to our personal lives
  • 4 weeks of PTO (personal time off) + all the public holidays in your country of residence
  • Stock options
  • Yearly company-wide retreats in beautiful places around the world
